Set in the Hampshire countryside between Winchester and Southampton, near the edge of Southampton Water, lies the small town of Eastleigh. A town has been present in the area for hundreds of years, but Eastleigh as we know it today only came about as a direct result of the spread of the railways in the region.
The town's station and railway yard steadily brought trade and prosperity to Eastleigh, which is now home to over 40,000 residents as well as plenty of examples of thriving commerce and industry. Eastleigh offers the perfect combination of the charm of a traditional English village coupled with the retail and cultural opportunities of a much larger town.
One local attraction well worth your consideration is the Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway, a miniature ride-on railway which takes in some of the area's most picturesque scenery including the local lakes.
